8 ways to improve your fitness. Fitness may seeming intimidating, challenging and time consuming. In some occasions it is, however improving your fitness doesn’t have to seem scary at all. Starting on the smaller goals can manipulate to working towards bigger challenges. There are lots of ways to improve your physical activity by swapping daily actions into fitness related movements. Exercise is important for our body, mind and well being. Incorporate exercise into your busy schedule by trying these 8 ways to improve your fitness.

Take the stairs

 

It’s easy to opt for the escalators than to climb stairs but by taking the stairs you are making a small, yet mighty, change to your body. People who take the stairs use a lot more energy, meaning their heart pumps faster and their metabolism is functioning quicker than those who don’t. Surprise your body by taking the stairs, not only will you feel like you’ve got in a mini workout but you’ll feel proud of yourself for setting a challenge rather than cruising along like most others.

 

Walk more

 

Speaking of steps, walking is a great way to improve your fitness. If are working an office job and involves sitting down for 8 hours plus, your body is craving to move about. It’ll do you good to get up and take a walk around your working environment every now and then. Perhaps go outside for a walk during your lunch break, try to park a tad further away than your destination or organise walk meetings instead of sit down appointments. Watch something whilst working out

 

If you struggle to find motivation whilst working out, watching something whilst exercising can be a great distraction to improve your fitness. Nobody likes to count the clock whilst working out, instead try exercising infant of your TV, or when the adverts are on. Watching your favourite TV programme or Youtuber can help make time fly by. Before you know it, you’ve killed two birds with one stone, TV catch up and workout completed at the same time!

 

Home fitness equipment

 

It’s hard to ignore something if it’s within your sight. Having fitness equipment in your home will most likely motivate you to get a quick workout in. Whether its during the ads or whilst you are waiting for your food to cook, completing a few sets of exercises will get your heart rate up, body moving and cardio vascular system enhanced.

 

Track your steps

 

If you are new to exercise, tracking and increasing your daily steps is a fantastic start to improve your fitness. FitBit recommends 10,000 a day, as ‘It adds up to about five miles each day for most people, which includes about 30 minutes of daily exercise—satisfying the CDC’s recommendation of at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. 10,000 not enough? Why not 15,000 per day and more?!

 

Drink water

 

We all know how important it is to keep ourselves hydrated throughout the day, for many reasons like flushing out toxins, improving digestion, boosting the immune system, etc. Upping your water intake helps promote weight loss. Sometimes we think we are hungry when actually it’s the body’s way of telling us that it needs replenishing. Having a glass of water besides you is an excellent reminder to keep yourself happy and hydrated.

 

Fix your posture 

 

Your posture can tell a lot about your health. It’s easy to slouch at your desk, you probably do it without noticing. Although, poor posture can cause all sorts of problems that could have a huge impact on your overall health. Improving your posture can better the way you walk, run, jump, lift weights and even boost your self confidence. Keeping your spine positioned correctly whilst sitting down enables a good balance of muscle strength and flexibility. Why not give a yoga, pilates or barre class a try and take the posture techniques away with you to practice in your everyday activities.

 

Prep your meals

 

The saying, ‘Failing to plan is like planning to fail’ is spot on when it comes to keeping on track with your fitness goals. Meal prep may seem time consuming but that’s just a fitness myth. Think about how much time and money you will be saving by prepping your meals in one go? Whether it’s for weekdays, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, prepping your meals will allow your diet to be more organised, resulting in improvements to your fitness.
